3. REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Initial production crane. The initial production crane and all cranes produced thereafter
shall meet the performance requirements of this specification. The first crane produced from
production tooling shall be fully representative of cranes supplied under this contract. This crane
shall be submitted to the Government for inspection and tests. Production and acceptance of
production cranes shall be withheld until such time that the initial production crane has
successfully demonstrated the performance specified herein.
3.1.1 Reliability (minimum). The reliability of the material handling crane shall have a
specified value (SV) of 50 mean cycles between mission failure (MCBMF) to be demonstrated in
accordance with the mission profile (see 6.4) during test. For calculation of MCBMF, a failure
shall be defined as a condition which:
a.
Prevents operations.
b.
Reduces performance below essential levels.
c.
Indicates to the crew that further operation would be unsafe.
d.
Indicates to the crew that further operations might result in extensive damage to the
equipment.
NOTE: Any of the above four conditions which cannot be corrected by the crew in 30 minutes
using the tools and parts normally carried on the M877 Cargo Vehicle constitutes a failure.
Maintenance and human induced failures are excluded.
