3.1.2.2 Overall height. The overall crane height, with the boom
horizontal shall not be more than 13 feet.
3.1.2.3 Axle spacing. Axle spacing for the crane shall be not less
than 12 feet.
3.1.2.4 Width. The width of the crane including tire bulge at
manufacturer's recommended tire pressure shall be not more than 12
feet 6 inches.
3.1.2.5 Ground clearance. The ground clearance and the angles of
approach and departure of the crane as defined in SAE J1234 shall not
be less than 14 inches and 13 degrees respectively. The crane shall
be fully fueled and serviced. The removal of the outrigger floats are
allowed.
3.1.3 Transportability. The crane shall be transportable without
damage, by highway, marine, and rail transport modes.
Transportability criteria are established by MIL-STD-1366 and
MIL-HDBK-157 as described herein.
3.1.3.1 Highway transportability. Disassembly of the crane is
acceptable to meet height, width, and weight requirements specified
herein. Disassembly shall be accomplished in not more than 12 clock
hours, and reassembly of the crane shall be accomplished in not more
than 12 clock hours by six persons using suitable material handling
equipment as required. Disassembly/assembly shall not include cutting
or welding. Slinging and tiedown provisions conforming to MIL-STD-209
shall be furnished on each assembly, (except tires and wheels),
required to be lifted by crane on to the semi trailer (M747). The

limitations for highway transport are:
Height
- When mounted on the 44-inch high semi-trailer bed
the maximum height above ground shall not exceed
162 inches.
Width
- The maximum width for highway transport shall not
exceed 144 inches.
Weight
- The maximum payload weight for highway transpor
t
shall not exceed 60,000 pounds.
3.1.3.2 Rail transportability. All components removed for highway
transport shall also be removed for rail transport. The crane and the
removed components shall withstand railroad humping without permanent
deformation or damage to any of its components when tested in
accordance with MIL-STD-810, Method 516.3. Procedure VIII - Rail
Impact.
3.1.3.3 Marine transportability. The crane without disassembly,
shall be transportable by breakbulk cargo ships, roll-on/roll-off
(RORO) ships, C-8 and larger, lighter aboard ship (LASH), barge
carrying ships (SEABEE), LARC60 and larger amphibious vessels (LCM 8,

LCU-1466, LCU-1646, BDL MARK I, Bk 7001, BC 7005, and BC 231-A) in
accordance with MIL-HDBK-157 and MIL-STD-1366.
